    This study investigated the serum levels of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in 60 individuals, comprising 30 patients with alopecia areata (AA) and 30 healthy controls. The results showed that EGF levels were significantly higher in AA patients compared to controls and were positively correlated with the severity of the disease, as measured by SALT scores. This suggests that EGF could serve as a marker for AA severity and may play a causal role in its pathogenesis.
