The Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia

TLDR Platelet-rich plasma can temporarily improve hair growth in androgenetic alopecia but may need additional treatments for long-term results.
The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by measuring hair density through dermoscopic evaluation, hair pull tests, and patient satisfaction. It included 30 patients (15 males and 15 females) with varying grades of AGA. The treatment consisted of 6 sessions over a year. Short-term results (up to 4 months) showed statistically significant improvements in hair pull test results and hair follicle counts. However, long-term results (5 months to 1 year) indicated a decline, suggesting the need for retreatment or additional medical treatments like minoxidil or finasteride. PRP was considered a modest tool for AGA treatment, potentially effective alone without other medical treatments.
