TLDR Combining DEB-BACE with chemotherapy is more effective and has fewer side effects than chemotherapy alone for treating unresectable lung squamous cell carcinoma.
The study investigated the efficacy of combining drug-eluting beads transbronchial arterial chemoembolization (DEB-BACE) with systemic chemotherapy versus systemic chemotherapy alone in 60 patients with unresectable lung squamous cell carcinoma. Results showed that the combined treatment group (group B) had a higher total effective rate (76.7% vs 50.0%) and lower incidence of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, hair loss, and bone marrow suppression compared to the chemotherapy-only group (group A). Additionally, group B demonstrated improved immune function, with higher levels of CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ T lymphocyte subsets, and lower VEGF levels. The 1-year and 2-year survival rates were also higher in group B (77.9% and 41.7%) compared to group A (54.9% and 17.2%). The study concluded that DEB-BACE combined with systemic chemotherapy was more effective and had fewer side effects, making it a promising treatment option for this condition.
