TLDR Combining stem cells with minoxidil improves hair growth more than minoxidil alone.
This controlled study involving 35 patients assessed the effectiveness of combining subcutaneous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) with oral minoxidil (3 mg daily) compared to oral minoxidil alone for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The group receiving the combination therapy (20 patients) experienced significantly greater improvements in hair growth, with a 25%-40% increase in hair shaft diameter and follicular density, compared to the control group (15 patients) who only received minoxidil and showed 5%-10% improvements. The study concludes that the combination of AD-MSCs and minoxidil provides superior therapeutic efficacy, representing a promising advancement in hair restoration. However, the study's small sample size and short follow-up period are limitations, highlighting the need for further large-scale research.
