TLDR Vitamin B12 and aureomycin reduce the negative effects of high doses of cortisone in rats.
A study involving 50 young male albino rats divided into 5 groups examined the effects of cortisone acetate, vitamin B12, and aureomycin on body growth and health. Rats injected with 1 mg of cortisone acetate daily for 28 days experienced complete inhibition of body growth, severe alopecia, and thymus gland atrophy. Supplementation with vitamin B12 (200 μg/kilo diet) or aureomycin (0.005%) significantly mitigated these adverse effects, with the combination of both being the most effective. The findings suggest that large doses of cortisone acetate increase the need for vitamin B12 and other factors in young rats.
