TLDR Silicone pretreatment protects hair from damage and reduces color fading without interfering with bleaching or dyeing.
A high-viscosity, high-amine-content silicone fluid was found to provide significant conditioning properties and protection against damage from bleaching and oxidative dyeing, as observed through SEM and combing force studies. This silicone pretreatment did not interfere with these processes, as shown by half head studies and thin-section light microscopy. Additionally, it reduced color fading of temporary dyes through shampooing, demonstrated by chromaticity tristimulus evaluations and thin-section light microscopy. Deposition experiments showed that several silicones penetrated through the cuticle into the cortex of the hair fiber, confirmed by TOF-SIMS.
