TLDR Orlistat helped reduce weight and testosterone in obese women with PCOS but did not significantly affect other androgens or cholesterol levels.
In 2018, a study was conducted on 32 Iranian women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to investigate the effects of Orlistat, a weight-loss drug. The study found that Orlistat significantly reduced weight, body mass index (BMI), and serum testosterone levels in these women. However, it did not significantly reduce other androgen levels, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels, or fasting insulin and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. The study suggested that longer treatment with Orlistat might be needed to see a significant reduction in serum LH level. The study had a relatively low number of participants, which might have affected the significance of some results.
