The study investigated the effects of minoxidil on pulmonary and systemic hemodynamics in hypertensive men. The study found that minoxidil reduced both peripheral and pulmonary resistance, but a relatively greater effect was noted in the systemic circuit. The observed increase in cardiac output with minoxidil therapy in the face of concomitant propranolol treatment is primarily due to an increase in stroke volume. The study also showed that in certain patients, minoxidil therapy might be complicated by increases in pulmonary artery pressure.
