TLDR Adding PRP to topical mometasone improves and speeds up alopecia areata treatment.
This study compared the efficacy of topical mometasone with intralesional platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus topical mometasone alone in treating alopecia areata (AA) in 100 patients. Group A received PRP injections every 3 weeks along with daily topical mometasone, while Group B received only the topical treatment. Over 20 weeks, Group A's mean SALT score decreased significantly more than Group B's (0.94±1.69 vs. 2.19±1.76). Excellent responses were observed in 12 patients from Group A and 5 from Group B. Minor side effects included pain in Group A (20%) and atrophy in Group B (2 patients). The study concluded that adding PRP to topical mometasone enhances efficacy and accelerates improvement in AA treatment.
