Effect of mycophenolic acid on proliferation of dermal papilla cells and induction of anagen hair follicles

The study investigated the effects of mycophenolic acid (MPA) on dermal papilla cells (DPCs) and hair growth in mice. MPA promoted DPC proliferation, increased Axin2 transcription, and activated the Wnt/ERK pathway. It also enhanced the Bcl-2/Bax ratio, contributing to cellular proliferation. Topically applied MPA induced anagen hair follicles in mice, showing effects similar to minoxidil (MXD), which were further enhanced by microneedle (MN) treatment. The findings suggested that MPA could be a potential treatment for hair-loss disorders.
