TLDR Drinking alcohol before taking flibanserin does not increase the risk of severe low blood pressure or fainting.
The study investigated the effects of alcohol consumption at different times before taking flibanserin, a drug for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. Involving 64 subjects with an average age of 32.5 years, the research was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study. Participants consumed alcohol 2, 4, or 6 hours before taking either flibanserin or a placebo. The main focus was on the occurrence of syncope or orthostatic hypotension requiring medical intervention. The results indicated that the timing of alcohol consumption did not significantly increase the risk of these adverse events with flibanserin compared to placebo. Somnolence was more common in those treated with flibanserin. The study, supported by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, concluded that alcohol consumption up to 0.4g/kg before taking flibanserin does not raise the risk of syncope, orthostatic hypotension, hypotension, or dizziness.
