TLDR Injecting CD34+ cell-containing platelet-rich plasma can improve pattern hair loss more than placental extract treatment.
In 2013, Kang JS and colleagues conducted a study to investigate the clinical efficacy of interfollicular injection of CD34+ cell-containing autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for pattern hair loss. The study was based on the premise that mobilized CD34+ cells in peripheral blood have angiogenic potential, crucial for active hair growth, and that activated PRP can induce the proliferation of dermal papilla cells. The treatment was administered to 13 patients with pattern hair loss, while another 13 patients received interfollicular placental extract injections as a control. The researchers concluded that the CD34+ cell-containing PRP treatment resulted in a higher degree of improvement than the placental extract treatment.
