TLDR Home-use treatment for severe alopecia areata is as effective as office-use but costs half as much.
The study compared the economic impact and effectiveness of home-use versus office-use diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP) in treating severe alopecia areata (AA) in 82 patients. Results showed no significant difference in treatment outcomes between the two groups at 24, 36, and 48 weeks, with both achieving similar rates of improvement and minimal side effects. However, home-use DPCP was found to be half the cost of office-use DPCP, making it a more cost-effective and time-efficient treatment option for severe AA patients.
