TLDR Unhealthy lifestyle and diet may increase the risk of early hair loss in young men.
This study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 1507 male university students aged 18-30 years. The prevalence of early-onset AGA was found to be 19.2%. Factors such as positive family history, unhealthy dietary habits (low vegetable-fruit and high red meat consumption), presence of other hair diseases, and smoking were linked to an increased risk of early-onset AGA. Additionally, students with moderate-severe AGA had higher body mass index and waist circumference compared to those with mild AGA. The findings suggest that lifestyle and dietary modifications could potentially help in preventing early-onset AGA.
