TLDR Taking dutasteride for one month before prostate surgery can reduce bleeding.
The study aimed to evaluate the effect of dutasteride on perioperative bleeding during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). The research focused on patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition often associated with hematuria. The findings suggested that a one-month treatment with dutasteride before TURP could reduce perioperative bleeding, potentially offering a beneficial preoperative strategy for managing bleeding risks in these patients.
