TLDR Certain drugs, especially those for eyes, bacterial infections, imaging tests, and skin conditions, are more likely to cause itching, with differences seen across gender, age, and weight.
The study "Comprehensive Study of Drug-Induced Pruritus Based on Adverse Drug Reaction Report Database" used data mining techniques to analyze the characteristics of drugs linked to pruritus (itching) using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System Data. The study found that reports linked to pruritus showed significant differences in gender, age, and weight compared to non-pruritus cases. The drugs most commonly associated with pruritus were ophthalmic drugs, systemic antibacterials, contrast media, dermatological antifungals, and dermatological preparations. The study also found that the site of pruritus onset and the method of drug administration could potentially classify drugs. These findings could help develop targeted prevention and treatment strategies to avoid pruritus in clinical practice.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Topical finasteride is considered a safer option for hair regrowth with fewer systemic side effects compared to oral finasteride. Some users report similar efficacy and side effects between topical and oral treatments, while others prefer topical due to reduced systemic exposure.

Kintor Pharmaceutical's Phase 2 results with the drug Pyrilutamide, a potential alternative to 5-ARI drugs like Finasteride and Dutasteride but without the side effects. It could be used in combination with other topical treatments such as Minoxidil. The safety of the drug has been demonstrated in 6 months of use, however there are still questions about long term efficacy and systemic absorption.
