TLDR SLE in Iraqi patients often involves hair loss and photosensitivity, with common treatments being corticosteroids and immunosuppressants.
The study conducted at Baghdad Medical Complex on 200 predominantly female SLE patients highlights the prevalence of symptoms such as hair loss (74%) and photosensitivity (79.5%). It underscores the importance of serological tests, with 73.5% showing positive ANA and 65% positive anti-dsDNA. Treatments like corticosteroids (77.5%) and immunosuppressants (90.5%) are commonly used, though they have potential side effects. The research calls for more comprehensive data on SLE in Iraq due to unique genetic and environmental factors, contributing valuable insights to the global understanding of SLE, especially in developing countries.
