TLDR PRP is unlikely to effectively treat wrist ganglia.
This pilot study evaluated the feasibility of a randomized control trial comparing aspiration alone to aspiration combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for treating dorsal wrist ganglion (DWG). Seventeen patients participated, with nine receiving PRP and eight undergoing aspiration alone. At the 6-week follow-up, ganglion recurrence was observed in seven patients from the aspiration group and five from the PRP group. By the 1-year follow-up, recurrence increased to seven out of eight in the PRP group, while in the aspiration group, four cases resolved, leaving three out of eight with a ganglion. The study suggested that a larger RCT would need at least 46 patients per group, but PRP is unlikely to be a definitive solution for ganglia.
