TLDR The DLQI is reliable but may not fully capture the impact of skin conditions on quality of life, especially in emotional and psychological areas.
The study reanalyzed data from 1,286 Brazilian patients to assess the psychometric properties of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) across 14 dermatoses. It found the DLQI to be reliable with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.90 and a unidimensional factor structure. However, items related to sports, work, and sexual difficulties showed insufficient fit in item response theory analysis. The DLQI's performance varied by sex, age, and disease type, indicating it may not fully capture health-related quality of life nuances across different demographics. The study suggested that while the DLQI is reliable, its unidimensional nature might limit its effectiveness in assessing the full impact of dermatological conditions, particularly in emotional and psychological domains.
