TLDR Researchers developed a method to measure plant compounds in rat blood and found they are quickly absorbed and eliminated within 36 hours.
In the 2018 study, researchers developed a UFLC-MS-MS method to measure four flavonoids in rat plasma and applied it to a pharmacokinetic study of Platycladus orientalis leaves extract, traditionally used for hair loss treatment. The method, which involved extraction with methanol-ethyl acetate and separation on a C18 column, showed high recovery rates and precision. In the pharmacokinetic study with six rats, the flavonoids were rapidly absorbed, peaking at 1.5 to 2 hours, with half-lives between 2.05 and 4.14 hours, and were fully eliminated by 36 hours. This research could inform clinical applications of the extract.
