TLDR Raman spectroscopy can identify finasteride polymorphs in tablets.
The study developed a simple FT-Raman spectroscopic method to identify finasteride polymorphs in tablets, specifically detecting polymorph form I used in tablet preparation, which constituted about 2.3% of the tablet's weight. The method successfully identified the polymorphic form and detected up to 15% of another polymorph in the solid dosage. Various techniques, including powdered X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy, were used to characterize the dosage form, with Raman spectroscopy being the only method capable of identifying the polymorph in the dosage form.
