TLDR Transdermal exposure to certain steroids can be detected in urine for up to 14 days.
The study investigated the detectability of four anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) after transdermal application in 12 male subjects. The substances tested were oxandrolone, metandienone, clostebol, and dehydrochloromethyltestosterone. Urine samples were collected over 14 days and analyzed using GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS systems. The results showed that these substances or their metabolites were detectable within hours and remained detectable for up to 10-14 days, with variability in detection windows influenced by individual differences and skin factors. The study concluded that transdermal exposure to these AAS is a plausible scenario in doping, highlighting the need for consideration in anti-doping efforts.
