TLDR Proper cleansing can resolve dermatosis neglecta, which may indicate underlying psychiatric issues.
This case report describes a 16-year-old male with dermatosis neglecta (DN) that mimicked pemphigus foliaceus, linked to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). DN is identified by yellowish-to-brownish, waxy plaques that can be removed with proper cleaning. Initially misdiagnosed, the patient's condition was clarified through dermatological and psychiatric evaluations, confirming DN and OCD. Treatment, including facial cleansing, acne management, and cognitive behavioral therapy, resulted in significant improvements in both skin condition and mental health. The report emphasizes the need to recognize DN and address psychiatric issues to enhance patient outcomes.
