This study surveyed dermatologists in the southeastern United States to understand their treatment practices for alopecia areata (AA). The results indicated that dermatologists were less likely to recommend treatment for children compared to adults and for more advanced stages of hair loss. Analysis of the National Alopecia Areata Registry (NAAR) data supported the finding that not offering treatment for AA was relatively common. The study concluded that there was inconsistency in the treatment of AA among dermatologists, highlighting the need for a stronger evidence base to guide more consistent treatment options.
