TLDR Dengue is more severe in children than adults, with higher risks of serious complications and death.
Dengue infection poses a significant global health threat, with children experiencing more severe outcomes than adults, including a higher mortality rate and increased risk of developing dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS). In children, common symptoms include vomiting, rash, and abdominal pain, while adults typically suffer from muscle and joint pain. Severe dengue in children can lead to complications such as plasma leakage, shock, bleeding, liver dysfunction, electrolyte imbalance, and organ failure. Effective management and prevention strategies are crucial to mitigate these severe complications in pediatric cases.
