TLDR Dissecting Cellulitis of the Scalp is more common in young men and often associated with head and neck acne.
This study on 71 patients with dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) revealed a significant male predominance (65 males, 6 females) with a mean age of 26.1 years. The disease duration averaged 14 months, with severity linked to longer durations. Histopathological findings included lymphoplasmacytic infiltration (90%), neutrophilic infiltration (79%), and irregular fibrosis (66%). The study emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis to prevent scarring and permanent hair loss, noting that DCS often affects young males with a history of acne, particularly head and neck acne.
