TLDR Artificial hair implants can cause severe skin problems, often needing surgical removal.
The study examined five patients with severe skin complications following artificial hair implantation, revealing hyperplastic epidermal proliferations and acute inflammatory infiltrates around the fibers in the superficial dermis, granulomatous infiltrates in the deep dermis, and sparse inflammation with fibroplasia in the hypodermis. A patient without skin inflammation showed similar features but lacked acute inflammation, indicating bacterial infections as a key factor in complications. Surgical removal of the fibers was necessary for effective treatment in two patients.
