TLDR Cryotherapy is effective for ingrown toenails, especially in single cases, but has high recurrence in younger and bilateral cases.
The study evaluated cryotherapy's effectiveness on ingrown toenails (IGTN) in 59 patients, finding it significantly improved the dermatological life quality index (DLQI) in 79.7% of cases. It was particularly effective in unilateral IGTN, with 65.8% in remission after 6 months, compared to 11.1% in bilateral cases. Recurrence was high, especially in bilateral cases (88.9%) and younger patients (17-20 years old). Factors like foot/toe deformity and large granulation tissue were linked to treatment ineffectiveness. Despite these limitations, cryotherapy was deemed a fast, inexpensive, and simple method, with minimal severe side effects, and was particularly advantageous during pregnancy. The study suggested that avoiding cryotherapy in patients with certain conditions and adjusting treatment based on individual factors could enhance outcomes.
