TLDR Topical minoxidil effectively promotes hair regrowth in male pattern baldness.
This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of topical minoxidil for male pattern baldness over 12 months, involving 96 patients, with 79 completing the study. It compared 2% and 3% minoxidil solutions against a placebo. After 4 months, placebo patients switched to the 3% solution. Significant hair regrowth was observed in both minoxidil groups compared to placebo, with mean nonvellus hair counts at month 4 being 162.8 for the 2% group, 155.4 for the 3% group, and 107.1 for the placebo group. The 2% minoxidil group showed significantly more hair growth than the placebo group, while no significant difference was found between the 3% group and the other two groups.
