TLDR Long COVID affects many survivors, showing the need for ongoing care.
A study conducted in Iran with 1,738 participants who were previously hospitalized for COVID-19 found that 87.8% experienced at least one symptom of long COVID syndrome (LCS) nearly a year after recovery. Predominant symptoms included hair loss (23.9%) and depression (69.1%). Factors significantly associated with LCS included anemia, being part of the second epidemic wave, use of vitamins/minerals or antibiotics, diabetes mellitus, not being the head of the family, and use of antivirals. The study concludes that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact survivors, highlighting the need for integrated post-COVID care systems.
