TLDR The pandemic worsened physical and mental challenges for women with PCOS.
The study explored the experiences of 12 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in the UK, revealing that the lockdown intensified the pre-existing challenges of living with PCOS. Key themes included difficulties in managing symptoms and self-care, delays in accessing healthcare, and exacerbation of mental health issues due to disrupted support systems and uncertainty about COVID-19 risks. Participants reported increased feelings of vulnerability, isolation, and anxiety, highlighting the need for improved healthcare support and mental health interventions for women with PCOS, especially during crises.
