TLDR Hair loss, especially alopecia areata, is linked to poor sleep and emotional stress.
The study investigated the correlation between three types of hair loss—physiological alopecia, androgenetic alopecia, and alopecia areata—and sleep quality and emotional factors. Conducted at Daping Hospital, it assessed patients using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Results showed that PSQI and SAS scores increased with age across all groups, with significant differences in sleep quality and anxiety levels among different age groups. Alopecia areata was particularly associated with sleep disorders, and female patients were more affected than males. The study concluded that hair loss, especially alopecia areata, was influenced by sleep quality and mental factors, highlighting the importance of maintaining good lifestyle habits and emotional well-being to prevent alopecia areata.
