TLDR Hamilton scale imprecise, hair shaft diameter decreases, stem cell transplant regrows hair, ECP ineffective for alopecia areata universalis.
This document is a collection of scientific articles related to hair loss and alopecia. One study found that the Hamilton scale is not a precise method for classifying patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Another study found that hair shaft diameter decreases due to a decreased proliferation of keratinocytes in androgenetic balding. A case report describes a man with alopecia universalis who experienced complete and permanent scalp hair regrowth following autologous stem cell transplantation. Finally, a study on extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) found that it was not effective in treating therapy-resistant alopecia areata universalis.
