TLDR A French bulldog had sparse hair due to a condition similar to that seen in Chinese crested dogs.
A case of congenital alopecia was reported in one female French bulldog from a litter of four, where the dog was otherwise clinically normal except for its sparse hair distribution, which resembled that of a Chinese crested dog. Histopathological examination of skin biopsies showed typical features of congenital alopecia, including a reduced number of hair follicles, hypoplasia or absence of epidermal appendages, and pronounced follicular hyperkeratosis, with no abnormalities in collagen and elastic fibers detected.
Low-dose oral isotretinoin improved hair loss and facial bumps in patients with a specific type of hair loss.
