TLDR Dermal filler injections can cause complications like swelling and infections, often appearing years later.
The study examined complications from dermal filler injections in 37 Danish patients over 13 years. Polyacrylamide and Hyaluronic Acid were the most common fillers used, with injections primarily in the lips, perioral, and cheek areas. Complications typically appeared 2 years post-injection, with edema, noduli, infections, discoloration, and granuloma formation being the most frequent. Surgical removal was attempted in four cases. The study highlighted the need for optimal treatment strategies to prevent scarring and provided recommendations for managing severe complications from dermal fillers.
