TLDR The new silicone gel wound dressing may speed up early healing after hair transplant surgery compared to Bacitracin.
In a randomized trial involving 20 subjects, a novel silicone gel wound dressing, Stratamed (SM), was compared to Bacitracin (Bac) after follicular unit extraction hair transplantation. The study found that healing response and patient preference were significantly higher for SM on day 1, but by day 7, both groups were similar. There were no significant differences in edema, erythema, crusting, pain, pruritis, or FACE-Q scores between the groups. The study concluded that SM may speed up the healing response in the early phase of wound healing, potentially decreasing patient downtime after the procedure.
