TLDR Taking Finasteride before surgery reduces blood loss and surgery time.
This study evaluated the impact of a 2-week pre-operative regimen of 5mg Finasteride on intra-operative blood loss in 120 patients undergoing monopolar TURP. The results showed a significant reduction in blood loss for the group that received Finasteride compared to the control group. Specifically, the mean blood loss was 296ml in the Finasteride group (Group-A) versus 370ml in the control group (Group-B), and blood loss per gram of resected tissue was 11.7ml/g in Group-A compared to 14.7ml/g in Group-B. Additionally, the mean operative time was shorter in Group-A (42 minutes) than in Group-B (49 minutes). The findings suggest that pre-operative use of Finasteride effectively reduces intraoperative blood loss in patients undergoing this procedure.
