TLDR Finasteride before TURP reduces blood loss and slightly improves early postoperative quality of life.
The study investigated the effect of six weeks of finasteride therapy before transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) on quality of life (QoL) in the early postoperative period. The results showed that finasteride reduced intraoperative blood loss and improved QoL in the early postoperative period, but the difference in QoL improvement between the finasteride group and the control group was not significant. Finasteride also influenced the amount of resected tissue and reduced the amount of irrigating fluid used during the procedure. The study suggests that larger studies with longer follow-up periods are needed to confirm the clinical significance of finasteride therapy before TURP.
