TLDR Most patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus in Bangladesh are young women, with chronic forms and photosensitivity being common.
This study describes the clinical and pathological characteristics of 218 patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) in Bangladesh, with a female predominance (85.8%) and a mean age of 30 years. Chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CCLE) was the most common subtype (70.6%), followed by acute (21.1%) and subacute (8.3%) forms. Photosensitivity (90.8%) and discoid rash (71.1%) were the most frequent skin manifestations, while non-scarring alopecia (56.4%) was the most common non-specific lesion. Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) were the most prevalent autoantibodies (60.5%). The study highlights distinct clinical and pathological features among different CLE subtypes.
