TLDR GnRH analogues are effective for diagnosing and treating female androgen excess, offering a non-surgical option.
This document discusses the clinical utility of GnRH analogues in diagnosing and treating female androgen excess, particularly in cases of ovarian hyperandrogenism. It presents three cases: one involving postmenopausal androgen excess resolved by resecting a benign ovarian tumor after GnRH analogue testing; another showing GnRH analogues' dual role in diagnosing and treating hyperandrogenism in a premenopausal woman with severe insulin resistance, leading to reduced serum testosterone and improved hirsutism; and a third case where GnRH analogue suppression successfully treated a postmenopausal woman with ovarian hyperthecosis, avoiding surgery. The case series highlights GnRH analogues as a valuable tool for managing refractory androgen excess and as a non-surgical alternative for benign ovarian hyperandrogenism.
