This systematic review analyzed 1,295 clinical trials on alcohol dependence from ClinicalTrials.gov, with 766 completed and 230 recruiting. Most trials were interventional (88.41%) and conducted in North America (67.64%). The review highlights the need for more effective pharmacological treatments, as none of the trials had been approved for marketing. Naltrexone, Topiramate, and Acamprosate were the most studied drugs, with Naltrexone being the most frequently researched. The study emphasizes the need for more resources and comprehensive studies to address alcohol dependence, a significant global health issue.
