Clinical Profile of Patchy Alopecia: Report from a Tertiary Care Hospital of Bangladesh

    This study conducted at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh evaluated the clinical pattern and prevalence of patchy alopecia among 259 patients, with a male to female ratio of 1.8:1 and a mean age of 23.73 years. The study found that 74% of cases were Non Cicatricial Alopecia (NCA), with Alopecia Areata being the most common type, while 26% were Cicatricial Alopecia (CA), with Discoid Lupus Erythematosus being the most prevalent. Most patients (61%) had multiple patches, and symptoms such as pruritus, scaling, and atopy were noted. The study emphasizes the importance of identifying and differentiating patterns of patchy alopecia for early diagnosis and effective treatment to improve patients' quality of life.
