Study of Clinical Profile of Hypothyroidism in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Central India

    This study, conducted in a tertiary care center in Madhya Pradesh, India, involved 240 patients with clinically diagnosed hypothyroidism. It found that hypothyroidism was more prevalent in females (71.7%) and commonly presented with symptoms such as weakness, weight gain, facial puffiness, irritability, hair loss, and menstrual irregularities. Common physical findings included weight gain, pallor, dry skin, pedal edema, and goiter. The study also noted that hypothyroidism was frequently associated with comorbidities like type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obesity, and hypertension. The research concluded that hypothyroidism was most common in older females, with the aforementioned symptoms being typical clinical presentations.
