TLDR The moisturizer with phytol improved skin texture and reduced fine wrinkles better than the moisturizer without it.
The document reports on a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, eight-week clinical facial efficacy study that evaluated the anti-aging benefits of a topical moisturizer formula containing 1% phytol, a naturally occurring diterpene alcohol derived from chlorophyll breakdown. Phytol has been shown in vitro to stimulate cell proliferation in human keratinocytes and increase collagen production in human dermal fibroblasts. The study compared the phytol-containing moisturizer to a base moisturizer without phytol. Expert visual assessments for anti-aging attributes such as texture and fine wrinkles were performed at baseline, weeks 2, 4, and 8. The results indicated that after 8 weeks, the addition of phytol to the moisturizer provided a statistically significant improvement in skin texture and fine wrinkles compared to the base moisturizer alone. The study was commercially supported by Avon Products, Inc.
