TLDR The patient was diagnosed with celiac disease after a long delay, showing the need for better awareness and earlier detection.
The document presents a clinical case of a 33-year-old patient who was diagnosed with celiac disease after a delayed diagnosis. The patient initially presented symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, weight loss, lower limb edema, fatigue, weakness, and hair loss. Despite seeking medical help and being diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, chronic pancreatitis, and intestinal dysbiosis over the years, the correct diagnosis of celiac disease was only established in 2023. This was confirmed through additional tests revealing cytolytic syndrome, coagulopathy, reduced folate levels, hypoproteinemia, electrolyte disturbances, high titers of antibodies to tissue transglutaminase, and esophagogastroduodenoscopic signs of celiac disease. The case emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease, and the need for additional research for confirmation. It also highlights the need to increase awareness about celiac disease among medical professionals and the general population for timely diagnosis and proper management.
