TLDR Excessive hair loss can be an early sign of celiac disease.
This paper discusses the link between excessive hair loss and celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that damages the small intestine when gluten is ingested. Hair loss, including telogenetic alopecia (TE) and alopecia areata (AA), can be a manifestation of celiac disease due to nutritional deficiencies and impaired absorption of essential nutrients like iron, vitamins A, D, E, K, B12, and folic acid. The study presents a family case involving a mother and daughter, where hair loss was the initial and subsequent extraintestinal symptom of celiac disease, respectively.
