Estimation of Claudin 3 in the Serum of Alopecia Areata Patients and Its Association with Disease Severity

The study investigated the relationship between Claudin 3 levels in the blood and the severity of alopecia areata (AA) in 60 patients compared to 20 healthy controls. Using the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score to measure AA severity, the results showed that patients with AA had significantly higher serum levels of Claudin 3 than the control group. This finding suggests that Claudin 3 could be a potential biomarker for assessing the severity of AA.
