CKD Nonprogressors: A Commonly Underrecognized Syndrome?

TLDR Some CKD patients' kidney function remains stable over time.
A study involving 129,486 CKD patients suggests that CKD progression is not inevitable, as some patients, termed CKD non-progressors, remain stable over several years. Two case studies illustrate this phenomenon: one involving a liver transplant recipient whose creatinine levels stabilized without CKD-modifying agents, and another with a 75-year-old male whose kidney function remained stable despite a history of AKI and other health issues. The study highlights the need for further investigation into the determinants of CKD stability and the potential role of pharmacologic agents in maintaining this stability.
