TLDR A woman experienced severe symptoms, including hair loss, after a COVID-19 vaccine, suggesting a possible autoimmune reaction.
A 53-year-old Caucasian woman experienced severe muscle weakness, myalgia, alopecia, and mucosal ulcerations one week after receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Despite normal laboratory tests, she developed total scalp alopecia two weeks later. The patient did not receive a second vaccine dose due to the suspected link to the vaccine, and a diagnosis of Systemic Connective Tissue Disease was ruled out. Six months later, partial hair regrowth was observed. The case highlighted the autoimmune nature of alopecia areata and the importance of evaluating adverse events post-vaccination to determine appropriate treatment.
