TLDR A unified approach is needed to better diagnose and manage Telogen Effluvium, focusing on education, empathy, and safe treatments.
The paper addresses the management of Telogen Effluvium (TE) in Canada, noting challenges such as long wait times for dermatologists and a lack of standardized care. A panel of 9 Canadian dermatologists identified gaps in patient education and treatment coverage, proposing a unified approach to diagnosing and managing TE. This includes identifying triggers, educating patients, and using safe topical products. The panel stressed the importance of empathy and support due to the emotional distress TE can cause. They also highlighted the need for better education for patients, hairdressers, and family physicians to improve management and reduce anxiety. The study, supported by L’Oréal and Vichy Laboratories, calls for further research on chronic TE and aims to enhance the patient journey through improved resources and education.
